Lodge Meeting and Cultural Program

The Lodge Meeting will celebrate Norway’s Constitution Day which is May 17th.  The Lodge will provide the traditional lunch of Hot Dogs, Orange pop and Ice cream.  We ask that you bring any potluck side dish.

The cultural program for May will be Margaret Willson presenting her book "Woman, Captain, Rebel". The book is about the fishing industry in Iceland in the early 1800's, when women were not always accepted well. Captain Thuidur, born in 1777 lived a life that was both controversial and unconventional. The book is non fiction but reads like a novel. Margaret is a writer and cultural  anthropologist who lives in Seattle.

n 1805 a special brand of Aquavit, Linie Aquavit, crossed the Equator from Norway bound for the East Indies to be sold, but returned to Norway in 1807, unsold.

It turned out that the sea voyage had a positive effect on the taste of the Aquavit. The old sailing ships have vanished, but Linie Aquavit still crosses the Equator on the deck of a ship and returns via Australia. It has become a celebrated Aquavit tradition.

During the festival, the Hardware Distillery launches a barrel of aged Dill Aquavit on Lee Geist’s boat, the Twanoh.

It crosses the Hood Canal from the Port of Hoodsport to Tahuya and back.

12:00 - The Lady Alderbrook departs from the dock, and the food vendors open

12:30 - Parade

1:00 - Barrel of Aquavit on the Twanoh will set sail. Paddle participants will follow

2:00 - The Twanoh returns to the Hoodsport dock. Awards ceremony for Paddle the Canal
